Principles of Community Placemaking

Principles of PlacemakingUW Extension Community Development Educator Steve Grabow authored a featured article on “Principles of Community Placemaking” in the March 2015 edition of The Municipality, the monthly magazine of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities (LWM). The Communications Director of the LWM invited this feature as part of an issue focusing on community placemaking. The article is found on pages 78-84. The magazine is distributed to 10,000 local officials in Wisconsin. The article is based on Grabow’s continuing programming and teaching on community placemaking, and includes:

  • Descriptions and graphic imagery around 19 research-based principles of community placemaking. (What is placemaking?)
  • Ten methods to apply “placemaking principles” in communities. (How do you do it?)
  • Examples of placemaking activities in Jefferson County and Wisconsin.
